Exploring Temecula is moving forward with our Temecula Winery Tour. This week we decided to write about the wineries with hotels in Temecula. Our first stop was the Inn at Churon, which is located at 33233 Rancho California Road, Temecula, CA 92591, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This winery has changed a great deal since our last visit. Ownership has changed, and at first glance, they seem to be doing a great job. The Inn at Churon now has a finished courtyard in front of all rooms and some very nice murals in the basement tasting room. This winery has a relaxed type of vibe and would be great for somebody looking to walk around, enjoy the views, and finish with a tasting.
What we liked
A few things that caught our attention immediately were the beautiful views of the rolling hills and the grand lobby, which has plenty of seating as well as a fireplace. The large tasting room on the bottom level is nicely decorated, has very nice painted murals, and has a large tasting area. One of the biggest reasons we decided to pick the inn at Churon was because they were playing live music. I’m sure the schedule changes all the time, but from what we understand, live music is Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4.
The Tasting
Wine tasting fees are $15.00 during the week and $17.00 on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Personally, we liked the whites and champagne more than the reds. After hundreds of wine tastings around the world, one thing that’s very important to us when we wine taste is the server; in this particular case, it was average. A server can make or break a wine-tasting experience, and being funny, engaging, and coming across like they love their job makes the experience so much better.
The Rooms
So, while we did not stay in the rooms on this trip, we have previously stayed at the hotel. The rooms are a good size and very nice and relaxing, with fireplaces and nice, big soaking tubs. We also liked the fact that they have beautiful views from the patios. Another bonus that we do remember was how good the breakfasts were—not just continental but full-on great breakfasts. We do suggest that you do some research before booking a room on their website. From what I have seen, hotels.com or Trivago have better deals or prices than the actual main site. Another option is to look into Groupon. Many times, wineries in Temecula have Groupons for wine tasting or overnight stays.
The Grounds
The grounds are probably my favorite part of this winery. It’s quite large and pleasant to walk around, both front and back. The views from the front are very nice, and I realized the new owner has worked hard at improving the overall appearance and functionality. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating, which is nice for when the weather gets better. All of the outdoor seating has beautiful views and faces the front of the winery.
Overall Impression
In my opinion, The Inn at Churon would be a great place for a weekend getaway if you’re looking for peace, quiet, and relaxation. If I was looking for a really fun Friday or Saturday afternoon or night, I probably wouldn’t go to The Inn at Churon. That’s just my personal preference and the vibe that I get when I’m there.
