Is Avensole One Of The Best Wineries in Temecula?

We frequently get asked what the best winery in Temecula is? Being totally honest,  every winery in Temecula is unique, some have better views, some of the better wines and others have better outdoor facilities. Our last winery visit was to Avensole  and after the day was over we asked ourselves, “is Avesole one of the best wineries in Temecula?” We definitely think so, and this blog and video is going to tell you why.

First, a little backstory and history. Avensole was formerly Van Roekel Winery which we visited many many times years ago. We would go to Van Roekel, drink some wine and then visit Maurice Carrie for the sourdough, brie cheese garlic loaf. (It is In the Video)  It was a wonderful afternoon, lots of fun and relaxation. 

Fast forward 10 years and we now have Avensole,  they did an awesome job with the transition, and in our opinion made Avensole one of the best wineries in Temecula. 

About Avensole 

Varietals grown at  Avensole include Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat Canelli, Old Vine Zinfandel, and Heritage Zinfandel. Vines were first planted in 1969. Bud, the original owner of Van Roekel spared no expense and wanted to produce the finest grapes in California. In 2014, it was purchased and change to Avensole winery. The new owners have done a fabulous job setting up the venue so guests get a feel of what the Temecula wine scene is all about.

Inside the Tasting Room

The beautiful new tasting room that was added after the purchase did not disappoint. As you walk in its decorated very tastefully, it has an area with a fireplace to sit and a  large square tasting bar, right smack dab in the center of the building where all the action is. As you walk in, to the left you can see all of the large stainless steel holding tanks through large windows. There is also an area that looks perfect for weddings, large gatherings, and dinners to the right of the tasting bar. 

The Vibe

Being totally honest, this is what makes or breaks many wineries for us. We hate stuffy, boring, or when excitement is non-existent. Avensole had a great vibe!  Everyone both inside and out was having fun, laughing, tasting and enjoying the beautiful day. The tasting area was busy, but that’s what we like. We enjoy seeing people having fun and loving the town we call home Temecula. 

What We Love

We can honestly say Avensole Winery has that show stopper look as soon as you pull into the parking lot. gorgeous outbuildings, well-manicured landscape, open green space, beautiful views, and a grand tasting room. These are just a few things we noticed within the first 10 minutes of visiting. One of the things we love doing on Sundays is finding a winery with live music. We prefer live music to be outside, especially in the nice weather. Avensole did not disappoint. The patio had plenty of seating, the sun was shining and the live music was great. Wine Club

The wine club is also important to us. We are a couple that enjoys going out once or twice a week for a drink, we also like to save a little money when we can. Many of the wineries are a great option for having a little fun and keeping your wallet a little heavier. Instead of spending $20 every time you want to go out for a drink, take that money, get a membership and go to the winery for your free tastings. Here are the different wine clubs available at Avensole.

Explore Club

The Explorer Club is going to be $60 to $75 per quarter, you get one red and two white bottles our selected Avensole wines. Shipment months are January April July and October. This membership allows you to have up to four glasses of wine per month.

Venture Club

 The Venture Club is $90-$125 per quarter and you get three premium bottles of Avensole red wines on a quarterly basis. Shipment months are February May August and November and you get 8 glasses of wine per month

Discover Club

The Discover Club is $150 to $200 per quarter and you get three bottles of the finest Avensole wines. This includes pre-release and Library Vintage Wines. You also get access to the VIP member’s lounge. The shipment months are March June September and December and you get up to 10 glasses of wine per month.

Weddings or Large Parties

I don’t usually get into details too much on weddings are large parties at these wineries but avensole would be perfect for this type of thing. There’s lots of room books on the inside of one of the tasting rooms and there is tons of Green Space around the main building. There is also an area to  one side of the winery that has gorgeous views that would be perfect for a wedding.

Our Overall Impression

We visit wineries all over Temecula regularly, avensole Winery is definitely in  our top ten. There’s really nothing about this Winery that we didn’t like. We had a ton of fun, it was both relaxing but Lively and we will definitely  return after We visit a few other wineries.
